30 Years in the HVAC Industry – Gembecki Mechanical Services, Inc.

As we close out the month of June, what does 30 years in business mean to Gembecki Mechanical Services, Inc., besides a number?

Reflecting on how the company first began and the growth it experienced takes one through many emotions. As a person who could fix almost anything, Mark first learned the trade working in his parent’s family operated business. In 1991, with two young children, Mark and Barbara opened Gembecki Mechanical Services, Inc. and worked the long hard hours to build the business. The goal was twofold: provide quality service to the customer with their best interest at heart; and provide the employees with a work environment that would be fulfilling. “Good Guys to Have Around!” Mark was an honest man who held a deep-rooted passion to serve his community. He created Gembecki Mechanical Services, Inc. to fulfill that need.

Back in those days, 1991, (for a small family business), marketing, finance, human resources, HVAC, estimating and customer service was different. The family would walk through local neighborhoods distributing flyers to spread the word of company’s services. Air conditioning estimates for residential and commercial applications were hand scratched and then typed on an IBM Selectric. Remember those? Large pagers and phones were used to communicate. Word spread. The day came, in 1994, when Dan was hired as the first employee – followed by so many more that are still here today: Rick, Marsha, Nick, Chris and Ron to name a few. The achievements of the company are attributed to all the employees who have left their footprint, a remarkable group that carry forward the same desire to serve our community.

Over 30 years, we have experienced market depressions, booming economies and most recently a pandemic. We have lived for happy days spent with employees at the office and had our sad moments too. The most transitional time was after the death of Mark Gembecki in 2017. Barbara acted quickly, surrounded with support, and positioned the company to persevere for many years to come. The children and Barbara continue to participate in the business operations today.

What does 30 years in business truly mean to Gembecki Mechanical Services, Inc. aside from reflecting on the past? It means opportunities to meet and service our local community for another 30 years and beyond. It means striving to provide excellent service for our customers to meet their HVAC needs. Loyal and supportive customers, we thank you! Employees, we thank you! It is a time to be thankful. Thankful to those that have worked for us, continue to work for us; thankful to our community for calling on us to service your air conditioning, heating and refrigeration concerns. We are honored.

Improving Health With Better Indoor Air Quality

Breathing quality indoor air is crucial for good health.  Most Americans spend a significant amount of time indoors.  Whether it be in the home, office or other types of buildings where gases, bacteria, viruses, chemicals and other pollutants can cause sickness, headaches, eye irritation, allergies and fatigue.  Consider investing in a REME HALO whole house air purifier developed by RGF Environmental Group, Inc.  Unlike passive air technologies the REME HALO flows thourought the air conditioned space actively purifying pollutants at the source.  Installed in your air conditioning duct work this device spreads hydro peroxide plasma throughout the air-conditioned space to reduce bacteria, virus, mold spores, odors and allergens.

The REME HALO’s cell has a 2-year/25,000 hour lifespan with no maintenance need in between cell replacements.  Hydro-Peroxide occur naturally in the earth’s atmosphere and are part of nature’s process of cleaning the air. This technology is currently being utilized nationwide and is approved by the USDA, FSIS, and FDA for use in food processing and manufacturing plants/facilities to reduce microbial contamination of food being processed. U.S. and International Hospital approval for the fight against infectious disease: 99% reduction of Staph (MRSA).  Cruise lines, restaurants and grocery stores use it as a safety measure against Norwalk Virus outbreaks.

This air purifier is not just for single family homes, it can be used in hospitals, nursing homes, doctor’s offices, schools, daycare centers, office buildings, hotels and restaurants to name a few.  You can now reduce common allergy triggers from particulates such as pollen, mold spores, dander and dust.  Thoroughly tested on airborne and surface bacteria & viruses, such as MRSA, e-coli, and Norwalk, to name a few.

Say goodbye to odors from cooking, pets, dirty socks, diaper pails, and musty rooms.  If you are interested in taking advantage of this upgrade to your HVAC system, feel free to give us a call for a quote and expert installation at (407)695-6646.

Make Sure Your Using A Licensed HVAC Contractor

Making sure to hire a licensed, bonded, and insured HVAC contractor can mean the difference between a successful installation and a homeowner’s worst nightmare.

Hiring a contractor that is insured with both liability insurance as well as worker’s compensation insurance is necessary. Liability insurance will cover any property damage that may result from the work being performed.  Workers compensation insurance will insure that you, the customer, will not be held responsible for paying the worker’s wages after an accident or injury, regardless of who was at fault.

Hiring a contractor that is licensed insures that the contractor has completed a registration process proving that they hold minimum insurance and bonding requirements needed to receive a license from the government agency that handles licensing in the area where the work is being performed.  Often, a contractor’s license is a prerequisite for applying for a building permit, if your job requires it.

A bonded HVAC contractor will protect you, the customer, if the contractor fails to complete the job or meet other contractual obligations.  Bonding insures that you, the customer, will not be held responsible if the contactor fails to cover the cost of supplies or pay their workers.  Bonding also covers the repair or replacement of substandard work caused by the contractor’s negligence.

You can check to see if who you hired has a contractor’s license by visiting www.myfloridalicense.com.  You can search by name, license number, city or town as well as by license type.

Wait, don’t close off those air vents.

Most homes have air vents with fins that can be adjusted. These fins can be used to direct airflow at a particular angle. You can close those vents off completely. You might think that you can save energy by closing off the vents in unused rooms, but that is not the case. Not only can this cost you more on your utility bills, it can also cost you more in repairs in the long run.

In order for your HVAC system to work as it’s designed, there must be adequate airflow. Most systems are calibrated in such a way that a change in airflow can choke out energy efficiency and put excess strain on the system’s components. Closing off air vents in your home will increase the pressure in your duct work, and that pressure increase backs all the way up to your HVAC system, forcing it to work harder. That increase in pressure will also put excess strain on fans, motors and other equipment, reducing maintenance intervals and leading to more frequent and costly repairs. An Increase in duct pressure will end up causing duct leaks allowing treated air to escape the ventilation system causing your HVAC system to work even harder.

The Importance of a clean air filter.

best air filters

When was the last time you changed your air conditioner’s air filter?  The average home A/C air filter should be replaced once a month.  Doing so not only provides your home with fresh, clean air, but also plays a very important role in keeping your A/C system working properly.  A dirty filter can drastically reduce your system’s lifespan, cause damage requiring repairs, and have a big impact on energy efficiency.   According to the U.S. Department of Energy, making sure to have clean filters in your home can save you around 5-15% on your energy bill.  If you have any questions about air filters or other HVAC related questions feel free to contact a Gembecki Service expert today and be sure to ask about our maintenance program.

How to Keep Your Ventilation System from Clogging

Man cleaning dryer vent in home.Obstructions in a heating and cooling system’s air vents reduce the system’s ability to efficiently heat and cool. Obstructions minimize the flow of air through vents, thus making it harder for systems to push warm or cool air through the vents and to rooms. While obstructions can usually be removed by HVAC technicians, it’s preferable to keep vents from becoming obstructed in the first place. Here are ways you can help keep your Florida home’s heating and cooling vents from becoming obstructed, so you don’t have to have an Orlando HVAC service provider clear them out.
